Nikon Coolpix 990: CF Memory, MicroDrive support?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I recently received one of the first Casio QV3000 cameras with the IBM Microdrive and had to send it back as the drive didn't work. As a result, I've decided to consider the Nikon Coolpix 990 as it seems to be getting better reviews. I've got the following questions:

1. Does anyone know if Nikon is planning to support the Microdrive in any future releases of the 990?

2. Do we really care about Microdrive support? In other words, will CF cards of > 128 MB become cost effective? Given a choice between an unproven, really tiny hard disk with moving parts and a CF card of equivalent capacity, I'd probably take the CF card (who needs a hard disk failure on your camera?).

3. What are the best places/prices for CF cards? Are there certain makers that should be avoided? I've noticed that eCost.com carries several brands, and that you can by a 64MB card for appr. $150.

Thanks for your help...by the way, this site has probably the most comprehensive and well-written reviews to be found anywhere on the Internet for any product. Kudos on an excellent site!
