Nikon 990 Cycle Time

Dear Sir:

The IR review of the Nikon CP990 stated:

"Shot to shot cycle time is very good though, at only 1.7 seconds for the first two shots in highest-quality JPEG mode, at which point the buffer memory is full and you have to wait something on the order of 7 seconds or so for it to empty."

Given that the camera has a 32MB internal buffer, how can this be true? 1.7 seconds between shots doesn't sound very good to me, but it's nothing compared to having to wait 7 seconds after only the second shot. I've pre-ordered the camera, but if the above is true I'll have to reconsider. A long lag time after the second shot is one of the main reasons I'm switching from my current digital camera. However if the above is true, the lag isn't much worse than the 990 - and it doesn't even have an internal buffer! I'd appreciate either a comfirmation or correction of the statement.

Answers

We will not add another resolution. There is a 1024 x 768 mode for smaller images.

The speed of Dave's prototype is not indicative of final production- his is preproduction.

There will be new samples arriving next week.

I would just like to add to the above questions: Why is there not a 1600x1200 mode? Can this be done later via firmware?

The advantage of the 1600x1200 res I would also assume would be increase of continous frames... I just find it really pointless to have a continous mode of two frames only.
