Lady Bug

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

The photo books imply that good photographers pre-visualize images rather than just wandering around and seeing something nice. This image was entirely the latter, though...wandering around, hm, that looks nice, light cooperates, presto, an interesting picture. A raft trip on the Grand Ronde, last memorial day. This is near Hells canyon in NE Oregon, steppeland with some trees at higher elevation. Using the Canon 100mm macro lens. There is a fill-flash look to the picture but it is in fact natural light, I haven't mastered flash. The highlight is the sun shining weakly through hazy overcast.

This is a very good shot. I'd say it's a great shot, but that one blade / leaf / whatever that's projecting towards the camera to the bottom left, well, it really "bugs" me. Save that, I like it. I know depth of field is hell in macro, so I feel your pain.

Really nice, but I wish that the ladybug's head was more easily seen. Excellent lighting.
