help on creating video cd's to play on a dvd player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have an HP8200+ cd writer, a pinnacle systems studio mp10 and a wharfedale dvd player.

When I make capture and edit videos and creat mpeg1 files they work very well and play on the pc on either media player or the dvd player on my pc.

However, when I put them onto a cd to play in the dvd player they are either covered in blockout if i made tehm with cd direct or just not recognised, the screen is blank, if i made them with easy creator.

The disks are fine for playing on the pc though.

What am I doing wrong. Although the dvd players instrructions say it doesn't play mpeg1's, all the uk dvd mags say it does but mine doesn't so i think i am not burning the cd's correctly.

You need to write the CD as a VideoCD. Most CD writing software includes this option. Mpeg files copied as data to CD's will only play on computers.

Garth is right; it cannot be stressed enough you need to follow steps in a true blue VCD authoring app like VCD Creator in Easy CD, etc so what you create comes out correctly as a VCD. Direct CD or even the data interface in Easy CD will only create a CD-ROM which might play on your PC but not on your set-top.

I used Nero to burn a Vcd and it worked, but it didnt. let me explain some. I put the Cdr into the dvd player and it autoplays it comes up with the movie and starts it going....and blimey it freezes. doesnt do anything after that. what is causing that? also to burn a Vcd it has to be in mpg right? or can it be in avi? cuz ive read both that it doesnt matter.
