My partner responded to chasing letters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

We were repossessed back in 1992 and the 2nd applicant on the mortgage has responded to the letters and agreed a payment of #10.00 per month. Although he has denied knowing where we area we have been receiving letters from a solicitors for the last 4 years. We have not responded even though the letters are now quite threatning. Our partner has been in touch with them again and they have told him they know where we are and are preparing court action against us. If we have not responded can they still take us to court? How do they know they have the right people? How long can they chase us for the debt? Does the fact that one of the mortgagees has omitted the debt make a difference?
