Small fire forces evacuation of Alaska plane By Q13 Reports The Associated PressMarch 19, 2000 9:07 PM PST
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Another incident aboard an Alaska Airlines jet.
Firefighters in Las Vegas put out a small fire on the wheel of an Alaska Airlines M-D-80 jet after the pilot reported brake problems as he taxied for takeoff.
The 134 passengers and crew on the Las Vegas-to-Seattle flight deplaned and were taken back to the terminal. No one was hurt.
An Alaska Airlines spokesman says the pilot of Flight 639 noticed one brake had a high temperature reading.
The tower told the pilot smoke was coming from the left landing gear.
As firefighters were checking out the aircraft, spilled brake fluid flamed up on a tire hub and was quickly extinguished.
Last week, a passenger aboard an Alaska Airlines flight from Mexico to San Francisco barged into the cockpit and assaulted a pilot before being subdued.
