greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just recently received a return email from amoisonic Inc. about the VDR2000. It is schedule to be marketable by May of this year in China and by June it will be available for the rest of the world. FOB price is about 350.00us but it's not a definite price. FYI

i recieved a return email from them too, and they were very nice. My question which would concern most of you who are interested in this as well, is this. Lets us the Dazzle for example as most of your are famaliar with this product. my question is as you know unless you want good results you have to capture using the dazzle almost to its limit (3000bit) then re- encode. Even if you capture at the 2500 rate you still need to run the panasonic on it because its filters wipe out some of the digital mayhem that comes with it making a better pic then what you captured (the 3000 rate is the exception, that just plain looks good without anything). With all this in mind is this new vcd recorder going to be virtually a dazzle but a homedeck version instead of a PC? Am i going to get the same results as if i were to use the dazzle at its normal vcd rate? If this is the case i may pass because it seems the way to get good results is to encode at a highrate then re-convert down to another rate. Well what is any of your input on this matter? thanks

Speculation is useless unless you have some basis in reality(know that compression chipset, etc.) Just wait till it comes out, buy one at Frys (30 return policy) and try it out. If you like it keep it. If not, send it back. End of story. BTW I'm trying out the Raite 715 DVD/VCD player and so far I'm very impressed. It seems to handle VCDs much better than my Pioneer 525. The fast forward is better. The only downside is it doesn't seem to have a stop/resume feature.
