Two units of Raozan power station shut down

from Staff Correspondent CHITTAGONG, Feb 2: The two units of the Raozan power stations tripped this afternoon due to mechanical faults resulting in the shutdown of both the stations.

According to the Power Development Board, both the units of Raozan Power Stations 1 and 2 became inoperative at about 12:57 pm leaving the whole of Chittagong without power. But the power supply however resumed at about 1:12 pm, within 15 minutes of the total disruption. A total of 250 MW of power is supplied to the whole of Chittagong. 100 MW from the Dhaka main grid and the rest from the Kaptai Hydel Stations and Shikalbaha Power Station against the total demand of 270 MW during the winter season.

The first unit of the Raozan plant is likely to resume generation at midnight tonight. But the generation in the second unit may resume after 72 hours.
