Pennsylvania: 3 Injured In Midair Collision

By KYW's Kim Glovas

A midair collision involving two single engine aircraft is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The accident happened around 11:15 Saturday morning, 50-feet above the Van Sant Airport in Tinicum Township, Bucks County. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters:

"The first aircraft, a Bellanca, had two people on board. The second aircraft, a Piper, had one. All three were injured."

The three people were rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. A nursing supervisor says it was "miraculous" that their injuries were not more serious. Peters says the FAA has learned that both planes were on final approach to the airport when the crash occurred. The investigation is continuing into exactly what happened.
