Stand Down -

An early good morning to everyone.

As some may remember, I was/am a fairly "doomerish" doomer, about 8.5+++ on the ole 10 point scale.

Now, time for my 15 seconds or so of musing.

Obviously, the world as we know it didn't end on 01-01-2000. Although, the world as I know it has been degrading for some time now...........

Looking back, I can see that some of my decisions were affected by too much time recieving positive feedback from those I agreed with. Duh. How many of us DON'T tend to stick with people with whom we agree?

Let us not, however, forget the numerous pessimistic government reports. Maybe the GAO was only looking for more money, maybe the Postal Service's Inspector General enjoyed humiliating her agency in public, I don't know.

We could still have some economic problems from the oil/gas prices, the effects of raw material price increases has not, I'm sure, worked it's way through the economy yet. And yes, I am completely aware that we don't know for sure whether or not the oil patch is in trouble.

That was always a point I strived to make, that whatever happened, we WOULD NOT BE SURE whether it was Y2K, normal glitches, Uncle Murphy rearing his ugly head, or what.

I DO know that, knowing myself, that I would do the same damn thing all over again, given only the knowledge I had at the time.

We face many, many threats to quality of life, our nation, our survival as a technological species, possibly even our survival as a species period, in the coming century. My preps give me a lot of reassurance.

My dear bride and I have found we are delighted to have the milk goats. The chickens are a blast. The pigs, well, I'm reserving judgement there (BG). They certainly aren't much work.

We will never go back to low stocks of food and necessities in our house. I will be more selective about what I buy, as it turns out the wife isn't real fond of beans............

Good luck to all, keep your powder dry, there are many dangers out there and the future is still cloudy..........

And good luck to you, Mushroom.

Have her try the beans pureed in soups -- they are a wonderful, inexpensive source of fiber. "Beano" and like products are available in the grocery stores if her system doesn't digest beans well, and "building" up also helps. I started with eating 1/2 cup of baked beans each day and now don't need the Beano anymore (I lived on fast food for several years).

As I get older, I appreciate fiber!

Hey there Mushroom.

Good to have you back. If you have been back I have not seen any of your posts, but welcome all the same.

Slowly put surely the old regulars are coming back. Good.

(((MUSH!)))

Good to see you here. I'm SO glad that you're still happy with the choices you made. Regarding the selectivity, sometimes we don't know we've made a mistake until we've made it. I'm sure you'll find a use for everything you have....eventually.

I certainly hope these "keep your powder dry" references don't include the infamous "butt" powder. I don't know anyone in real life who ever used powder on their butt. Even if this is a reference to guns, do they STILL use powder? Whatever...it IS a cloudy day here today, Mush, and I AM still glad to see you.

I don't know anyone in real life who ever used powder on their butt.

I've got to answer this one, Anita. Back when I was in college, my housemate had this girlfriend who worked as a part-time aerobics instructor. She used to powder her behind because she claimed that the powder made it easier for her to keep her leotard from sticking to -- um, um -- places where it shouldn't stick. I asked her one time if she also powdered her chest, too, but she declined to answer, which was probably just as well. This whole topic came up because she stayed over one night and was going around in the morning asking if anyone had any powder she could borrow. (One of the weightlifters had some.)

There are a few things about women that I'm probably better off not knowing. This was one of them.

Mush!!!

Good to see you again! We have too many dried beans for our family even if we eat them daily. They'll grow if you plant them. If you're not worried about harvesting beans, just plant them in areas where you aren't planning to garden this year, maybe along your fences. They put nitrogen into the soil, and your livestock will eat the vines whether they make bean pods or not.

"I am another doomer idiot that was completely wrong, but I won't openly admit it. I must cling to some small shred of self-esteem, so I will try and get the other doomers to say 'ohhhh you aren't so bad!"

back to my clueless life...I wonder who will sucker me this week?"

sheesh.

Funny story there, K8bum!

I have 2 daughters and one son who were active in gymnastics as children. They powdered their HANDS. [Of course children don't care if their leotards stick.]

As much as I complain about doomer trolls, somehow polly trolls are even more irritating.

Mushroom, this is not a place where you have to come to wear a hair shirt. You did what you thought was needed. I may not have agreed with you but that doesn't mean you were wrong. Welcome to the other side - we all have something to learn here.

Anita:

The interesting thing was, I knew I was selecting, but still felt the risks were worth guarding against.

Won't be posting too much of anywhere, I suspect, too much to do. The homestead is like a lifeboat I threw stuff into all last year, it needs a lot of organizing and such, lots of Projects!!!

And surgery for carpal tunnel, something about too much time on computers. (BG)

--(Just@an.observation) FutureShock=Liberal hater?

I admit, the guessing game is fun, but I am about as far left as left goes on this board-read my posts under the "vermont could decide law..." thread and then tell me if you come to the same conclusion.

This did give me a laugh, though, as I have responded to liberal hater in the past with animosity.

BTW-I have had the same handle since the beginning-about the last week of December 1999.
