NIKON: Microdrives and Camcorders

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

1. Is there likely to be a future version of the 990 (though I've already preordered mine) that will support CompactFlash type-2? The single greatest flaw that I can see in the 990 is its inability to support the IBM Microdrives.

2. Movie-clip capture seems to be a growing feature amongst the better digicams. Do you forsee a convergence between digital cameras and digital camcorders? The individual components have much in common.

Thanks.

1. No-see my answer below for more info. See why it might not be a flaw...

2. I think convergence is a market demand on all products from phones to refrigerators (could the Jetson's have been right?)

As of right now the technology to produce DV versus still is evoloving-they are similar-but the image size is vastly different-as it is much larger on Digital Still captures...so it requires often as much technology as you have in 2 devices-and if 1 fails-both fail...
