Removable Lenses?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am a researcher at the University of Florida. I know very little about digital cameras. I am looking for a digital camera with removable lenses. I have been looking with no luck. Do you have any suggestions?

"Consumer" digital with interchangeable lenses isn't really happening yet. There are some really high dollar pro cameras and the Nikon D1 which is still pretty high on the dollar scale for many of us. The main problem is the sensor size being so different (in general terms, smaller), than the image size in a 35mm camera. So the 35mm lenses usually work out to being telephotos. So the existing crop of lenses doesn't make the transition all that effectively. The majority of the non-serious hobbyist or non-pro's can live with a digital point and shoot with a limited zoom range so the market pressures aren't there yet. There were rumors of a Minolta using the APS line of lenses but it's not happening yet either I guess.
