NIKON:How is the Color Matrix WB different?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The new 990 has a 256 element Matrix White Balance feature that presumably offers a more intelligent way of determining white balance. How does it work? Well, I'm sure it works fine, thank you, but how does it go about its function and how does it produce an advantage over the white balance estimation system of the 950?

It's Matrix white balance. Rather than taking a center-weighted reading-the whole frame is used to detect white balance.

The 950 used the center. It is more complex than this-but this is the first explanation I have received. As I know more I will share it with you.
