Nikon: Why was LCD on CoolPix 990 reduced in size?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi,

I notice that the size of the LCD panel on the back of the new CoolPix 990 has been reduced in size (compared to 900/950) from 2 to 1.8 inches. Doesn't this make information and picture detail more difficult to see/judge? Why so small?

I would have preferred an LCD panel larger than 2 inches!

Thanks, Iain

While the LCD size is reduced-it's resolution is not.

Availability of 2" LCD's are limited-and the 1.8 uses less power-yet has incredible contrast-and is very usable in direct sunlight. Also- to keep the size manageable-and to allow the 4 way rocker control switch-we had to reduce the size.

You can zoom in (and see very sharply) up to 4x on playback-and many functions can now be viewed on the top LCD-so you can turn off some of the feedback on the viewing LCD.
