James LeGros joining 'Ally McBeal' By Gary Levin, USA TODAY

Independent-film actor James LeGros is joining themcast of Fox's Ally McBeal as a litigator. LeGros, who has appeared in the films Living in Oblivion and Drugstore Cowboy and was featured in Showtime's recent anthology Common Ground, is one of two characters being added by producer/creator David E. Kelley,in part to replace the departing Gil Bellows and Courtney Thorne-Smith, who are scheduled to return for occasional appearances next season. Lisa Nicole Carson has been on extended leave, and it's uncertain when she'll return.

LeGros, 37, will play thirtyish lawyer Mark Albert. He will be written into the final batch of this season's episodes, set to air during the May sweeps. A female lawyer has not been cast but will be introduced either in May or in the fall.

Kelley has said the new characters may serve as antagonists to the core group at Cage/Fish & Associates. LeGros' role as a lawyer who handles criminal cases suggests Kelley wants to return to exploring some of the legal issues that are a staple of his other prime-time series, ABC's The Practice.

Among TV appearances, LeGros played a doctor on NBC's ER for several episodes at the end of the 1997-98 season.

John LeGros is a good actor. He was in "The Myth of Fingerprints" with Noah Wyle, but they didn't have any scenes together. I think he'll be a good addition to ANY ahow.

This doesn't really have anything to do with LeGros, but I was just going to point this out incase anyone cared. I was wathching the show Pacific Blue and I noticed that the man who played Tag Leari was a guest star on the show. And on this weeks Once and Again episode the Woman who played Mark's mother is playing the Mother of the main actress.(Sorry I don't watch Once and Again so I don't know the characters Names)
