London: Jet makes emergency landing after indication of engine fire

3/16/00 9:56 am

A Sabena regional jet, carrying 59 passengers and crew, made an emergency landing at London City airport on Tuesday after a warning device indicated to the crew that an engine was on fire.

The crew shut down the engine and returned to London City where the plane landed safely. There were no injuries.

The BAe RJ85 aircraft was flying at 1500 feet when the incident occurred.

London City authorities said the airport was closed for 29 minutes, but no other flights were canceled or significantly delayed.
