Can Audio CD be copied at 4x?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

An article I read proposes that audio cd be burned at 1x speed. The argument is that higher burn speed can result in skippy cd. What about making a copy? Must the copying be done at 1x speed too? Can I use 4x or higher to make copies?

Hi Daniel

So far I haven't made any audio cd's with my burner yet. Mostly I have burnt my own VCD creations. Whenever I need to make a copy of a VCD, I will create an image file first and burn the image file at 4x without any problems. This includes burning my own video files.

Cuts down on my coaster stock ~ not that I need them :>

I wouldn't advise you to do copying on the fly at 2x even as I had some incidents of buffer underrun. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't - can't understand why???? My CD-ROM is a 40x Philips and my Yamaha 4261 is a IDE burner.

A potential problem in using higher speed is said to be clicks and hisses. Any of you have encountered that?

I do burn Audio CD's at 4* all the time (on-the-Fly)without any problems or jitters. Since I'm a High-End-Freak with sensitive ears and equipment I would pick-up problems such as jitter, which I haven't had as yet. However, burning any faster than 4* (and my burner would allow for that)is at best a russian roulette. Also the EZD 4.0 is the better choice for Audio CD copies than the Nero. But this is the only application where I would use and/or recommend the EZD, otherwise it sucks. The Nero in contrast does cause me some problems sometimes with 4* Audio CD copies on-the-fly. But burning my VCD's with Nero at 4* didn't fail a single time and I never had any quality or reading problems with 4* VCD's whatsoever.
