Camera ready ink jet prints?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

My only experience in outside reproduction, so far, has been to send my original art on paper directly to the publisher to be drum scanned. Now I'm a digital addict and manipulate my photos/art in Photoshop, print out and sometimes add additional media after printing. Can I use an inkjet print from a "photo quality" printer like the Epson 1270 for camera ready art if the publisher wants a hard copy rather than a computer file, or do I need to have a "continuous tone" print made at a service bureau? Any help on how to best reproduce these "second generation" originals (for children's book publication in particular) would be sooooooo appreciated! I'm completely ignorant on the "what-to-do's! Thanks so much! Pookley
