Monitor Calibration Revisited

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Thanks to all that put me on the right track with this monitor calibration biz. BUT, is it unusual while setting the gamma at 2.2, with the contrast at 100 (as suggested), and the brightness at 18? Looks OK, but the numbers seem strange. Should I dump my Viewsonic G790 and get something else??

A brightness setting of only 18 seems extraordinary to me. Sometimes the Anode-1 voltage drifts on monitors and TVs and the brightness goes sky-high. Are there any "flyback" lines visible on the screen when the brightness is set to a more normal value of 80 or 90? These are thin white lines cutting diagonally across the screen. If so, your monitor needs electrical adjustment/repair/replacement, for reasons of safety as much as anything else.
