ATI AIW128 + EZ CD Creator Deluxe 4.01 = VCD compliant

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Greeting to all AIW128 and EZ CD Creator 4.01 users,

I hope this will answer your questions regarding ATI AIW128 + EZ CD Creator Deluxe version 4.01.

Q. Will AIW128 creates VCD 2.0 compliant clips for EZ CD to accept? A. Yes it will. Here is how. First select video menu and click on either NTSC or PAL for video input source. This will set your video frame rate to the standard NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps. Next select custom setting and choose mpeg1 for video format. Once that is done, select mpeg setting next. You will see a menu with Aspect Ratio, Frame Rate, and I-frame only, click on the default button located on the bottom right side of the menu (This will set the VCD 2.0 compliant for you). Click on the Next button and you will see another menu page for GOP setting page. The top box should default to 15 and the bottom box should have 3 in it. Altering these settings will result in faulty packsize for video and audio, which in turn creates audio/video skipping during playback. Click on the next button and you'll see the video bitrate (1150000 should be default for VCD) and motion estimation slider(3 is default for VCD). Alter the video bitrate increases resolution but will kill your compliant. Alter the motion estimation slider will reduces the blockiness but it will change the reference clock! The next page belongs to the audio; audio bitrate should be 224000b/s at 44.1KHz and stereo. Click on OK & OK to finish up.

Record your clip and write to CD. Another thing if you want EZ CD to co-operate with your ATI you should modify your system.ini in the MCI area with a line MPEGVideo=qtzmci.drv, else you'll get error adding your clips

I use a similar setup except I change motion detection to 18, have GOP at 12 and use Joint Stereo. I have found that if I edit the MPEG- 1 clip in iFilm Edit that Adaptec Easy Creator software will still tell you the reference clock is wrong but it will accept it and burn it correctly. It plays back very nicely on my APEX.
