I can give Mary's story a shot...

Dave "Legs" Linthicum
Maryland
1000
more than Vader could hope to sell bandaids to.
well-set
reasonable
awful weather
the accident
a new headlamp
pool
trip to Russia
not so good
it was a bingo control in the middle of a bunch of thorns
a pair of thornknickers
preparing a team for the relays and would kick some serious butt
still smelled like orange and cloves after all these years

I rated the Georgia A-meet by giving the event grades for terrain, maps, course, organization and overall. Here are my grades for the SLOC B-meet.

Terrain A: The terrain was typical St Louis terrain. The hills were big.

Maps A: The maps were fine. They were consistent and I didn't have any real trouble with them.

Courses C: I'm giving the courses a pretty harsh grade. It is tough to set good courses in St Louis terrain. But, I think the courses could have been a lot more interesting with just a few changes. Neither day had a long leg. Neither day had much variety in leg length.

Organization C-: The controls on my course were all in the right place. But, the organization seemed a bit loose. The event seemed a bit understaffed and the staff seemed a bit over worked. SLOC can do better! On the plus side, the meet center was indoors on the first day -- very nice given all the snow! Start times on the second day were delayed by 30 minutes...not good.

Overall C+: The event was a lot of fun. But, SLOC can do a lot better. A couple of small changes (like hanging the control for number six on day two so it was more visible) would have raised the grade.

Dist and Climb in meters, calculated by F. M.

$ Mike Eglinski was one of the first runners to this control, which was lower than he expected. Many others simply followed the footprints in the snow. # Mike believes he had about 1:00 in mistake on this control. ^ This control was hung low in a small pit such that it could not be seen even when standing within 2 to 3 meters. Some times were better because of being able to see others punch at the control.

There was some trouble with the formatting for Fritz's message. I should be able to adjust it so that it looks ok. When I get the formatting fixed, I'll probably post it as a new thread.

-- Michael (mike_eglinski@kcmo.org), March 13, 2000.

I have managed to get the split times in a more useful format. I also created a new thread with the splits. The new thread is titled "Split Times for SLOC B-Meet." The split times are posted at:

To fill in the blanks on Mary's story(I hope this formats correctly; it doesn't always come out on seperate lines, as I would like):

Alan Edmonds Ohio 40 sad tolerable decent snow traffic on I-70 gaiters pool Caribean cuise worse the marker was hung IN the pit O shoes "dead" turned 50,000 miles
