Sorry Dougal. I disagree. It's the quality of play on the pitch which is shite. To be honest, I thought the pitch itself looked a lot better than at the same time in any other season. And a lot better than many other EPL pitches right now.

I think Dougal is getting the warning in now before this board gets too full with it.

I have to agree with Screacher that it is probably better now than it has been in a long time, but I do worry, that in common with the Newton Heath pitch at the Theatre of Ars*holes, that once the stands get to their full hight and with a roof on, the sun ain't gonna get where near pitch level for weeks/months on end.

THat is why they have got a good ground and a crap picth, so what hope SJP being so much further north.

There is a glass roof going on so it will better than b4, in fact I heard they are going to grow tomatoes in the close season,to raise money for players in case SOS skint the club.

I can't remember what roof covering they have at OT. From looking at the few panels they have now installed at SJP, they look translucent, so the light should be quite reasonable - certainly not as bad as if they were opaque.

Presumably it isn't beyond the whit of man to get some artificial lighting installed a or about pitch level. Yo know - the sort of thing that you find in glasshouses in remote far-away places. I hear it helps the grass grow really well!

Pitch looked fine to me and I was practically siiting on it !

It's cutting up dreadfully.

I did notice it was chopping up around the goal mouth, it looked bad on MOTD. But from where I was it seemed okay.

I'm pleased to hear that they are having what in essence sounds like a glass roof on SJP. That is the problem with OT, because of the angle it sits at, and the lownes of the sun in winter, the sun doesn't acytaully touch the grass between the end of october and the end of February, which, as all gardenrs will know, is not very good for growing or drying out the soil.

I say ditch the tomatoe idea.....grow marujana instead, make far more money down the Bigg Market....fund more transfers and make Gavilan and Solano feel more at home.

I wouldn't go as far as to say we will get any direct sunlight on the pitch, but at least it will be a bit lighter than if we had a solid roof.

Last time we had this discussion I brought up the idea of getting some of those hydroponic lights, only on a much larger scale. The only thing is I don't know how much it would cost to run them. But possibly any money that players have to pay for club fines could be used to pay for the lighting bill. Plus we could add heaps of pot plants around the edge of the pitch and develop an extra source of revenue. You now, that there fibres are really good for making clothes.

Ah idea! Hemp NUFC kits.

Saturday was the first time the sun shone through the new glass roof, and I'm VERY glad I don't sit in the east stand. It always used to amuse me when the east stand lot had to put their hands over their eyes to shield the sun, they didn't know how good they had it. On Saturday the small amount of roof with sun coming throught was just a huge bright blinding blur of light. When the whole thing is done it'll be like looking into 100 yards of floodlights.

I suspect what they need is a nice set of curtains, although I'm not sure what colour curtain poles would go best with the concrete grey of the stand.

Sun in the mince pies ...To: MacBeth

Thanks Mac - I also noticed that problem - from my seat in the East Stand!!

It's curtains for MacBeth Glad to see you finally made it over here Mac. I was one of those with my hand over my eyes in the East Stand on Saturday (and it wasn't just when Shearer missed those two sitters). I was waiting to see at what point the sun would dip behind the new roof, and it was almot the end of the game before it did. To be honest, I don't know what difference the roofing material would have made as the only bits in place were in the corner over the away fans. No doubt we were just testing to see if it was secure before covering our own.
I'm guessing, but I suspect there are only a few in the East Stand who might be affected by direct sunlight. Those lower down (I was in row L) will be shaded more/earlier than I was. I don't know whether the East Stand roof affords any more protection from the sun for those further back. Clarky was right at the back and it sounds like it was no better.
Of course you can already imagine the marketing hype for the new Titanium Club (soon to be constructed in the East Stand) outlining the benefits of sitting in glorious sunshine, watching dazzling displays. "Free" sunglasses will be made available to all Titanium Club members in exchange for their #4500 pa subscription fee (Resorve matches included). Lesser mortals like the rest of us will be offered them for hire for #15 per match or #25 to include a piped report from the orificial webcast.

aye screach you'll get searched on the way in for sunnies and hats, with ground ejection for ilicit hat wearing, "programmes! badges! official scarves! sun glasses! ambre Solar! welding goggles & bovril!!"

I think you'll find that the sun will only by higher between now and the end of September. Saturday was as good as it gets till the clocks go back

SJP The Solarium Install the lights & get an all year tan, it would make some of the foreign players feel at home aswell. Perhaps that's what is wrong with Maric, mebees if we ration his food and set bangers off he will get back to his best.
