County to meet about errors By John Canalis, Staff writer March 11, 2000 LOS ANGELES The Registrar-Recorder County Clerk's Office will speak on recent election glitches Tuesday before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The board plans to discuss the glitches with election officials in hopes of resolving them before the general election in November, said John Wallace, press deputy to L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe.

Knabe's motion states that several problems were reported before, during and after the state primary.

"Many of them are to be expected due to the large volume of work associated with a countywide election," the motion states.

California's first open primary for president and a new voter management information system may be to blame for some of the problems, the motion states.

Among the reported mishaps:

Absentee ballots were not received.

Sample ballots went undelivered or to the wrong address.

Drivers who thought they registered to vote by checking a box on license applications at the Department of Motor Vehicles did not follow through and fill out appropriate forms.

"We just want to get to the bottom of it and determine if something was amiss or it was just something to be expected in an election this large," Wallace said.

The Board of Supervisors meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple St., Los Angeles.
