PLAY SELECTION PROBLEM

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY NIKON COOLPIX 950 WHEN I MOVE THE SELECTION DIAL TO PLAY. SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND OTHER TIMES NOTHING HAPPENS. OFTEN I WILL SELECT PLAY AND NOTHING HAPPEN I WILL PLAY WITH THE SELECTOR AND FINALLY IT WILL DISPLAY RECORDED IMAGES AND DOWNLOAD. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR DO I HAVE A BAD SWITCH. I REALLY LOVE THIS THING AND I WOULD HATE TO BE WITHOUT IT FOR VERY LONG IF I HAVE TO SEND IT BACK TO NIKON FOR REPAIR. ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS SAME EXPERIENCE OR OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAMERA. THANKS, WENDELL

If you've recorded images in TIFF mode, it'll take a while to display them. There's always some delay when switching from record to play. If you wait a good 15 seconds or so with no image after switching to play, you almost certainly have a bad switch.

My CP950 had the same problem. I believe the switch contacts wear out, as when you apply more pressure down on the selector switch, it works fine. I've sent it back as it's still under warranty.
