Encoding a high bitrate MPG to VCD, better quality?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a Dazzle DVC and was wondering if I capture at the highest bitrate (3000k/sec) and then Encoded it in to a VCD File if the quality would be any better? Thanks for any help

No stand alone player could play that. 2500 is the max.

your one step there. Encod as you do(3000 or 2900) bit rate, but instead of encoding it to vcd you can encode it (depending on your encoder, i use the panasonic) to the 2500 bit rate) this is what i do with the dazzle. Or you can do the previous but make it a vcd instead the results look quite nice. just make sure if your using the panasonic that for a highrate vcd at 2500, on the advanced options, change the vbr buffer rate to 150 and for the filters use only "adaptive" at its "strong" or "strongest" setting.

i could find that 1246kbps is maximum that a stand alone player can play a VCD.
