A couple of statistics for you: in the past 8 days (Mar 2, when the forum went live, through Mar 9), we've had 95,570 "visits" to the forum, and 4,498 messages posted.

That works out to 11,946 visits a day.

An even more interesting statistic is the ratio of visits to posts: 21.24 , which implies that there are a LOT of lurkers out there.

We're now up to approximately 490 registered subscribers ...

This could develop into a very interesting thread on statistics.

How much time do you spend here; how often do you visit? Just curious.

-- Statgnat (Statgnat@statgnattt.xcom), March 10, 2000.

Incomplete, but interesting. The ~90,000 visits without posting anything could be anywhere from 0 to 90,000 different non-posters, and there's no particular reason I can think of to lean toward either end.

As on any forum, the poster-curve drops rapidly, with fewer than 20% of the people making upwards of 80% of the posts.

The stats here show 3,875 messages posted. Not bad for a "rebel" forum... <:)=

Folks:

I wish them well; so don't get the wrong idea. it seems that ynott and old git are wearing their fingers to the bones posting stuff . Of course I could be wrong.

Best wishes,,,,

Carl Jenkins and LL are wearing themselves to the bones too.

Hi Chuck

Seems like old times seeing your post.

Ah, the web site statistics game. Eddie must feel threatened in order to quote the ol' manipulated "visits" stat. And as far as: "We're now up to approximately 490 registered subscribers "

...well, I've registered about ten times using ten different aliases, and I know I'm not the only one...

-- Y2K Pro (y2kpro1@hotmail.com), March 11, 2000.

Which begs the question as to WHY Pro would feel the need to register and post multiple times under different names.

-- Sam (Wtrmkr52@aol.com), March 11, 2000.

I also wonder how many of the 490 registered subscribers are either on the banned list, or include people who may only post occassionly. I'd like to see a list of active participants like the one available for this board.

-- Malcolm Taylor (taylorm@es.co.nz), March 11, 2000.

When I first tried to register, I tried a global registration and my name was already taken. Since I was only interested in one board, I tried locally and got the banned message. Like everyone else, I figured this was either a mistake or a bug in the local registration software.

So I picked a new name and registered globally. I was duly sent a password, and logged onto the system. At that point, I was allowed to craft a response and submit it to Ed's board, but the submission bounced with another banned message. No further registration was required, however.

So OK, do I now count as a registered subscriber?

The old #'s game. I was always amused back in the daze when I frequented churches (before ICABOD became the sign over the doors). They'd have a scoreboard up in the pulpit. "5000 members", yet attendance was less than a thou.

-- (doomerstomper@usa.net), March 11, 2000.

394 of them posting as 'Old Git'.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), March 11, 2000.

I had a similar situation to yours, Flint. My name was already taken, so I chose to go back to a moniker that I'd used when I first got my PC many years ago...OLDNOVICE. My E-mail WAS correct, and I obtained my global permission slip and HAVE posted a few times there. I make it no secret there that OLDNOVICE is Anita, but I post rarely because I haven't seen much of interest.

-- Anita (notgiving@anymore.thingee), March 11, 2000.

One last thought on this topic:

Was this a popularity contest?

-- Anita (notgiving@anymore.thingee), March 11, 2000.

Sam, you asked:

"Which begs the question as to WHY Pro would feel the need to register and post multiple times under different names. "

As soon as they found out who I was, they would "ban" that user. I would they move on to another persona. I know, I know, I should get another hobby...

-- Y2K Pro (y2kpro1@hotmail.com), March 11, 2000.

I know, I should get another hobby...

I have a driveway full of snow that you can shovel, Pro.
