Who stated these words...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

There is no such thing, at this date of the worlds history in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print.

I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job.

If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours, my occupation would be gone. The business of journalists is to destroy truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell out his country and his race for his daily bread.

You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals for rich men behind the scenes.

We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.

The winner gets Lady(nonlogic) for the night, if you want her??? NOT!!

WEll..If you win Laura for the night, you could have her babysit your kids for you, and finally get to spend the night in an internet chat room! LOL. I'll guess Ben Franklin.

PS..if I win laura for the night,..she can cook something for us. Always good to have time off from the stove! And you'll have to wear an apron, and try to look very ugly..so my husband doesn't ask if we can keep you.

By-the-way:

I've never had any problems with LL. I responded to many of her posts [all of which were deleted]. The reference to "rising from the ashes" refers to the name of her burg.

Best wishes,,,,

Oh, man, Z1X,

I wish to heavens I had a chance to read your posts. You can't imagine how aggravating that is for me!!!

It's too late too go back, and it's killin' me.

LL, I think you'll find that quite a few people responded to many of your posts before they were deleted.

I used to enjoy reading posts from both yourself and Y2KPro, however I didn't enjoy the multiple posts, and was one of the many who complained about them. However, I'm glad to see you back in the forum with all of that behind us now.

LL, do you realize that if you weren't on this forum, it wouldn't be nearly as interesting for folks?

-- gilda (jess@listbot.com), March 10, 2000.

gilda,

It is not helpful to this forum for you to enable that delusion that LL already has.

Well, regardless of who is going to end up with Lady Logic, I would like to make a comment about the quote in the lead post.

I disagree. There is an independent press out there, and it includes some honest, professional unbiased reporters who do get to disseminate their work. Look to the print media, mostly. Unfortunately, they are far outnumbered.

The internet is a new equation, but professional standards there -- what protects us all through good journalism practices, truth verification, bias filtration, etc -- remain in many cases seriously in question.

We need more efforts on the part of journalists to support and demand journalistic integrity.

gilda,

I've only stayed around because of you, maybe five other posters, and to prove to Ed Yourdon, and everyone that reads my words, that if I'm not censored, I WILL NOT spam.

I'm just about done though because I don't see too much point in sticking around. I've just about proven my point, and had all my questions answered.

Malcolm, get back here...

You said, "I didn't enjoy the multiple posts".

Were you ever a sysop? Could you define what "multiple posts" means?

Does that mean when someone comments more than once in a thread? (Different comment, same thread?) Or, does it mean a specific number of questions a day. For instance, if someone starts more than three threads, is that considered multiple posting?

(By the way, I didn't start spamming until my posts were deleted based on content. Diane didn't like it when I made fun of Ed Yourdon.)

Can't believe in this day and age that you would offer up a woman as a reward, presuming we're all here waiting to service your needs.

Pretty or not, she don't got what I want. Why not offer a man? It's not as though THEY serve any purpose beyond pleasing me, anyway.

While we're on it, tell me who said, "No one made a greater mistake, than he who did nothing, because he could only do a little."
