Looking good mate, (thanks for all the hard work) but still a bit hard to navigate. Number of posts and time stamps would be good. Perhaps hiding the e-mail as well???

Anyway - there was a comment the other day about performance and you replied (can't find it). I just got an e-mail update but it was over a minute before I could see the item on the "Answers" page. Does the "sweep" only happen infrequently?

The DB sweep happens at maximum of a minute. There is lots of other DB activity on this site, so very occasionally it takes a small while to catch up. I'm working on the timestamp stuff and hope to have a communicatesque threaded style with timestamps sometime in the next couple of weeks.

As for the categories, the system retains the most frequently answered 'questions' at the top level, adding them to the 'older categories' after 24 hours. I can set the category sweep for 0 days and then everything will be inside a category. Not sure how much folk would like that though.

Dunx, I'm a bit worried about clogging up your bbs with all my rubbish. I notice that the data base sweeps out questions after 7 days.

Does that mean a) all questions that go unanswered (added to) for 7 days get the chop? or b) the original question remains but the answers drop off after a week (e.g. "BBS Corinthian League" remains but the older replies start falling off)

If it is a) then I would be more than happy to start a new thread under "Competitions" each time I draw a result from the Corinthian League - that way, the thread would automatically die 7 days after the last reply and you wouldn't have the enormous amount of info that is on the thread at the minute. It would mean that you would end up with 7 Corinthian League threads at any one time, but they would have less info collectively than one monster thread like we have now.

If it is b), then the problem is already solved and I'll get me coat :-)

Is it possible for anyone else to nominate categories of messages or is that your sole responsibility? Just worry about you having to tidy up so much.

As for nominating categories, it's my sole responsibility right now, but actually not that much of a burden. Once I've got the Communicataesque interface set up, it'll be academic anyway.

BTW, the machine that this service runs on is so fast and so huge that it would take many years of non-stop Softie-posting before it got full!
