Reactor closes after BNFL supplies wrong data againSource: The Herald Publication date: Mar 07, 2000
THE nuclear reprocessor BNFL is once again at the centre of controversy after a second blunder regarding safety data.
A German nuclear reactor is being shut down because BNFL lost key safety data on fuel it supplied and replaced it with information relating to a different batch, the Government has disclosed.
The company is also suspending fuel deliveries to British Energy's power stations because of quality control concerns.
Energy Minister Helen Liddell said the problem once again concerned the fuel known as MOX - as with the crisis that hit the company last month, when it was found to have falsified safety data on fuel sold to Japan.
