I've lifted this from the Ronnie Gill. Anyone heard anything about this? Just thought that what with being an NUFC fan and a net-heed that I ought to have heard SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE. Sounds bloody silly to me. ----------------------------- NEWCASTLE United fans are set to score today in a new Internet football lottery game.

The Toon Army faithful are among supporters across the country who are going on-line to try and win #20,000 in Britain's first Internet lottery, which is being launched today.

The Premiership Lotter-e gives players a one in 46 chance of netting a prize, with a one in 142,506 chance of winning the jackpot on March 23.

United are among several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Derby County, Leicester City, Everton, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City, who are taking part.

Jackpot

Supporters will pay #1 entry by credit card into a secure account to select five numbers between one and 30.

Each club will then receive 20 per cent of entries nominated by individual Lotter-e players.

The value of prizes, apart from the weekly jackpot of #20,000, will depend on the number of plays sold and the number of players with matching numbers.

Gordon Butterfield, Newcastle United's promotions manager, said: "Our intention is to use this money to improve conditions for those coming to watch Newcastle United."

LONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Britain's first online lottery was launched on Wednesday with a football theme and the backing of top soccer clubs, giving fans the opportunity to choose which club receives the proceeds from each game. Some of Britain's richest soccer clubs rallied behind the new Premiership Lotter-e game which will add another source of income to their array of fat sponsorship and media deals. Premier League clubs Newcastle United, Liverpool, Everton, Derby County, Leicester City, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City are supporting the game and more clubs are expected to follow, Alladdin Lotteries which runs Lotter-e said. The Football Society of Great Britain, which is promoting the game, said the proceeds would be used to benefit supporters and the grass roots of football rather than new players. "This extra revenue cannot and will not be spent on buying players or paying the salaries of existing players. Our intention is to use this money to improve conditions for those coming to watch," said Gordon Butterfield, Newcastle United's promotions manager. The odds of winning the 20,000 pound ($31,570) weekly jackpot are one in 142,506 compared with one in 13.9 million for Camelot's National Lottery [LOTT.CN], Alladdin said. Clubs will take 20 percent from each one pound entry and 20 percent of sales of merchandise on the www.lotter-e.co.uk site's shopping mall. The first draw will take place on March 23.
