Wondering about the cash value of a set of ten books by Poe. They have a date of 1849 and are published by Harper Bros. Pub. New York.

You have an extremely rare literary find, and my estimate would be something in the $100,000 range. Similar books by Poe, published that date and earlier, have been known to sell at six digits--I kid you not. Congradulations on your exceptional find. P A Regan

Robin,

Regretfully, there has never been a complete listing of Edgar Poe's works nor any accurate listing of subsequent editions and reprints. That said, the first edition of his works following his death in October 1849 was released by J. S. Redfield publisher and edited by Rufus Wilmot Griswold, Poe's first biographer. The initial release was in two volumes and contained his tales and poems. Another volume was released in 1850 and the final volume in 1856.

The only connections between Harper Brothers of New York and Edgar Allan Poe, of which I am aware, was when they published his "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket" in 1838 and then in 1884, Harper and Brothers of New York published a volume titled "The Raven" with illustrations by Gustave Dore.

The only other multiple volume set of which I am aware that was published by Harper Brothers was a 10 volume set said to be published around the 1920s that has a green hardback covering with gold lettering on the binding spine. The title of this set is "Works of Edgar Allan Poe" and is also illustrated. There is one particular 10 volume set currently on auction at EBay and can be seen at:

The owner of this set indicates that there is no publishers date given. It may be a 1920s reprint of an 1849 edition.

Best of luck on your search.

Regards,

yah and no it all depends on the validity of the amount of consumption a reader takes within his inner sole to realize that an auther with the intensitiy to do as Poe did in his literary pieces of ingenius art is unbelievable and can be described if wanted and maybe even needed as a breakthrough throughout the world of science and physical nature of biology and maybe through the generics poe realizes that untrue is his love for the being but untrue is not his answer thoughout the world of economics and throughout the event of a literary crisis weather severe or not.

They're worth more than any other literary work IF you read them, if you do not, you may check cash values at ebay.
