Rumor: US Postal Service - 1 wk mail delay, misdirected shipments, delivery drivers upset

I hesitated posting yet another rumor, that is, until I saw the article about "4,000 missing Oscar ballots."

RUMOR: Postal Service mail frequently delayed about a week longer than normal... misdirected mail shipments to pickup centers... and mail drivers delivering mail to the wrong states.

A friend of mine heard those exact complaints from a frustrated US Postal truck driver on Saturday, March 4, 2000. The driver explained how sealed boxes full of envelopes were being marked with the wrong codes. As a result, (for example) mail destined for Michigan post offices was delivered to those in Illinois. The mistakes weren't discovered until the deliveries were completed. This was setting delivery back at least a week and causing much frustration for employees. The driver stated, "Everything is screwed up" (pardon the expression)

My friend can't understand why glitches at the Post Offices are not being reported on mainstream news. In all fairness, CNN is telling the story about "4,000 missing Oscar ballots," although there has no mention of other P.O. problems as far as I know.

Has anyone heard rumors?

Response to US Postal Service - 1 wk mail delay, misdirected shipments, delivery drivers upset

A couple of weeks ago, I mailed a letter to North Carolina from southeastern Michigan. It took eleven days to get there. The odd thing was that it wasn't postmarked my city but with Detroit. I probably could have walked there faster.
