Can't play VCD after installing (& uninstalling) Nero in Windows 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'm having the same problem mentioned a few posts before (New to VCD.. having problem playing it on my PC) where after installing & uninstalling Nero I can't play a VCD from my CD-Recorder. I saw they solution regarding 'SCSI1hlp.vxd' in Windows 98, but Windows 2000 doesn't have an 'iosubsys' folder and I haven't been able to find a solution anywhere, they're all for 95/98.

Please help!

Try unistalling Nero and install the latest update 5.5.5.1. If not able to solve the problem, try downloading Service Pack 2 as well as other upgrades using Windows update from your explorer or from the start button. Within he upgrades you will find DirectX8.1a among other goodies. My final suggestion is that you should have installed a special program for DVD and VCD playback such as Power DVD3 or 4.I never had any problems with my system. Another tip is that you should enable your cd/dvd rom's DMA. It is recomended that you enable that for your HD too. That will increase the data bitrate and the time that your CPU is busy with such devices will be reduced increasing your system's power. Maybe you don't have enough RAM or a CPU running below 350-400 MHz. If your RAM is under 96MB, facing problems, especially with Win2k is inevitable. Finally upgrade your system's drivers (VGA, sound card) in order to increase your system's functionality and compatibility. Oh, try using a registry cleaner in order to clean up the mess created inside your registry. After uninstalling any programs, there are usually left keys inside the registry which Windows Uninstaller or Unistall Shield cannot remove. That might generate conflicts with other programs. That will also lighten your system. Well, that's the lecture for today.
