Entire Ohio Town of 500 Evacuated After Tank Collapse and Chemical SpillMorral, OH, United States
3/3/2000
Two small tanks holding an agricultural fertilizer collapsed and the entire town of Morral, Ohio was ordered evacuated as a precaution.
The town of 500 was ordered evacuated, as was an elementary school of 275 students.
Officials say a dike around the facility successfully contained the chemicals. The tank contained non-toxic farm fertilizer, but there were concerns the fertilizer could mix with other chemicals creating a toxic substance.
According to officials of Morral Companies, the clean-up was expected to take several days, but the good news, according to media reports, is that the chemical by itself poses no threat to the ground, ground water, or the environment.

I'm seeing pictures of the so-called cleanup as I type. Look for massive fish kills in Erie next month.
