Deb, I would like to suggest that you read some of Tony Hillermans novels. Most of them are set in the 4 corners area and Im confident you will love the stories.

Here's my dream adventure travel destination. Have been there and done some touring by car (unbelievably beautiful!!!) but I can't wait to do it on foot. Already started "training" for the 47-k trek.
