I'm not saying it's going to happen.

I'm not saying anyone WOULD REALLY GIVE A FLYING FOOSEBALL (SP) whether or not it happened.

However, it MAY happen, and in anticipation of that possibility--especially being mindful of all of this discussion lately about "censorship" and people being "banned" from various forums, I'd like to first, post a reference to my response to Fact Finder on another thread.

Now, in my responses on that thread, you will note that I opened up the forum briefly. I made the decision to password protect it again immediately thereafter. Why? I decided there is still too much extremist "heat" out there. Am I right or wrong? I dunno. It was just a decision I made on the facts available at the time.

For the record, however, if I DO decide to remove the password protection feature of my forum, these rules will apply:

1) No language that would not be classified with a "G" rating. I have a child. Many of you have grandchildren. I KNOW you KNOW where I'm coming from on this.

2) Try to refrain from personal attacks. I know, it's oh-so-tempting to call someone a "B**t*ead" or worse--but does it display intelligence to do so? I think not. One of the things that was so captivating about many of the original TB2000 forum posters was their ability to debate issues in a concise, informative manner.

3) Other rules may apply, but I doubt it. I like spirited debate. As painful as it can be, it is part of how we learn and grow.

We shall see.

#1 I seldom swear on a forum, and never to be vulgar or to call another person a filthy name. But occasionally I do, when it seems appropriate, and only an expletive will do. I'm not interested in wearing a Scold's Bridle. I had a grandfather who swore, and no one ever got excited about it that I can recall. None of the family felt that it was a corrupting influence. I am also a grandmother.

#2 I too do not believe in personal attacks unless I'm attacked, then it is self defense. However on the original TB forum I was attacked in ways that I've never been attacked on another forum, and certainly not on the TB Spinoff. Concise, informative manner!! HA HA

As for "archiver"--and I am only addressing this, because I've seen this thread posted on Greenspun forums more than once--perhaps you might consider the true meaning behind the phrase, "I don't HAVE a favorite PIT." Might it mean that I don't believe it productive to refer to anyone's forum as a "PIT?" Hmmmm....

As for you, dear Hawk, have you actually read any of the chapters offered up thusfar? If you had done so, I think you might think differently, with regard to your comments about "copyright permission" or "fair reimbursement." Please correct me if I am wrong.

P.S.

For those who are not yet aware of this simple fact, the research clock pretty much stopped for me on December 31, 1999.

I number among those who "reported in from my zone" on New Year's Eve, and yes--I have food storage in my basement--and hilariously, some might think--I have experienced emergencies since the "roll-over" that became "non-emergencies" because I was able to utilize my Y2k preparations.

In fact, here's a tid-bit I haven't posted on any other forum. Two days ago, one of my neighbors--after an extended power outage in our neighborhood--said to me, "Well, it was longer than the power company told us, wasn't it? Good thing we had that Y2k stuff. Actually, I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was."

This was a neighbor to whom I had spoken (not preached, mind you, but spoken to) about Y2k in early 1999. I said nothing to her after Fall of 1999.

I think I did something good for her, however, by bringing Y2k to her attention as early as I did. I may have done something good for the entire neighborhood, in fact. I didn't scare them, I just simply reminded them of the American Red Cross guidelines.

So, for anyone who may find fault with me for not routinely posting these experiences to any Internet forum, I can tell you without question that I have done so in other venues.

Maybe you'll read about these experiences at a later date. If you choose not to do so, that again, is your choice.

O.K., Hawk, this is my last post for the night, and maybe my last post to this thread, period.

First off, you are not quoted in this book in any way shape or form.

Second, I EARNED the right to be called a journalist. Perhaps not by writing books, but by over a decade of experience as a television news reporter, producer, assignment desk editor, film and videotape photographer, etc.

I worked at ABC, NBC and CBS network affiliates across the United States. When I was first hired into that business, I was paid 8 thousand dollars a year for working a minimum of 50 hours a week. I have a frost-bitten right foot because I wasn't able to afford proper boots when covering stories in the snow, etc., etc., etc.

In short, I PAID my dues. My mentors were Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, etc. I was very close to a job with one of the networks when I made a decision to leave that business. I am a devoted wife and a mother (and that had something to do with my decision) and YES, I am writing a book.

Now, you can choose be nice, or not.

Totally up to you.

Oh, that explains it, a journalist. I'm not concerned about my words being used, and it is in fact because of people like you that I post anonymously. However, you know damn well that you had already taken quotes from people using their real names with every intention of including them in your book without any permission whatsoever. The only reason you changed your mind is because when you were nearly ready to print you started soliciting sales on the forum and many people got pissed that you hadn't even asked them for permission. This isn't the streets where you can just walk around with a tape recorder, our words on the internet are considered published works of art and are subject to copyright laws. I would hope that you have learned the lesson that there is a big difference between being a journalist and an author and next time you'll use your head before someone sues your pants off.

You have me confused with someone else. Toward the end of 1999, there were people who came to the original TB2000 forum stating they were interested in writing books. I was not one of them. I was here long before that.

Now you were here too--according to your "bio" for 1.5 years. Question is: Did you have a hidden agenda during that time?

I didn't. My agenda, in the beginning was like most of the moderates on the original TB2000 forum. I was just trying to figure out what was what.

In short, I wasn't interested in the "New World Order," or anything else that was largely political. I just wanted to find out what this "Y2k Thing" was about--a technology issue that morphed into something else--as history will apparently record it, even without my potential input.

In an effort to investigate all of the nuances--I began asking questions (via email and telephone)with people who seemed wise, and in many cases "had credentials." I have six to eight file boxes of notes in my office printed out from the past year that I would dearly love to consign to a "burn or garbage" pile. I can't do it though. Why? Because I was TRAINED as a journalist, I know I need to hang on to the notes until the project is finished.

Further, my journalistic training--as much as you seem to enjoy denigrating it,(along with the brutal training Cronkite, Rather and Brokaw experienced, and trust me on this one, if you knew what they had to go through to get where they are/were, your perspective might be vastly different)--is solid enough for me to understand the importance of using real names only with permission and utilizing quotes in moderation. Of course, you would know that already, had you read what I've written thusfar. Obviously, you haven't.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you are "flaming" me because you are "Damned mad" about something that has nothing to do with me.
