Big Dunc goes over my dead body(or 25mils)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Fenerbache can take a flying leap. Why is it that as soon as we seem to be getting some top players, or top performances out of our players, they're suddenly being rumoured to be leaving? arrrrgghhh!

Sorry, just need to vent..while also starting a new thread. Don't mind me, allergy medication has made me very edgy this afternoon(not to mention various other little stresses of the day) 8-}

Don't believe it. It's aal Taggart Taalk. He'sjust trying to muddy the waater. He's seen a "discipline problem" with Nobby and had a get together with Nobby's agent. Theur just stirring the poo (are we allowed to say that on here??)

#10m quid - he has to go. They'd be mad to pay that for someone so frequently crocked and we'd be mad to keep him

I wouldn't let big Dunc go! Bobby may be looking to bring in new players though, so we will just have to sit tight.

Bah !!! If we get 10 Million for him, you can bet that YBR will only get 3 million of it for a replacement.

Don't forget that we lose more than just Big Dunc - we also revert to Shearer as target man, back to goal, head down, only scoring from setpieces...urgh! That 10m could cost us 15m.

Yous hould have been around when Dalglish was manager - getting rid of our best players happened dilay at one stage.

re Dougals comments on loosing players during the Dalglish era presumably the best examples being les ferdinand(sold by the Board against Dalglish's wishes) and Alan Shearer(injury) and Sir Peter Beardsley(age)--or were you thinking of some others? sorry but I just get a little bit fed up of the same old myths! --now if you had been talking of not being given any money for players as in Dalglishes first 12 months...................... Anyway its great for the bbs to be back!!! Alan(aka Fifties Fan)

Dalglish's outgoings ...to: fifties fan

..perhaps she was still dreaming of Daveed - still turning it on (for someone else) after all this time.

Would it be worth BR using the 'if they go, I go' approach to the Dunc and Nobby situation, if it worsens ?

...not if he gets #20 million for them. Why should he? What use would such a gesture be in Solano's case, if as is being reported he wants to join Real Madrid? #20 million for them would be good business IMO, and I'm sure BR would spend it wisely.

To Clarky I was thinking more from the point of view that they were being sold purely as a business deal, neither of them really wanting to go. If you're right that Nobby does want to leave, then obviously they should get as much as they can possibly screw out of the buyers - as long as it isn't mu.

Talking of which, that's one of the differences between a big club and one that just thinks it's big. mu see a player they want and go for him, we would be more likely to ring everybody up and tell them we have this great guy, come and get him. :-))

"Talking of which, that's one of the differences between a big club and one that just thinks it's big. mu see a player they want and go for him,..."

You mean like manure did with Shearer, and Batistuta, and Salas, and......?

NUFC do indeed think they're a big club, unfortunately the practicalities are that we are not perceived to be as big as several other Clubs by the top players themselves - probably because we've haven't won anything to give us real credibility for over 30 years. While the players are indeed mercenary, most of them are also egotistical, and want to win medals/championships during their short careers. So, irrespective of how big our 'turnover' might be, until we start winning things we will not be regarded as a truly big club by the people who really matter - the games top players.
