Could anyone tell me what 'WAOL' is? I know I am stupid. I get these 'illegal operation' boxes when I am on AOL. They pop up for no discernible reason and at the oddest times. I check 'details' and I always see 'WAOL' there. I eventually have to shut down my computer and start over. What the hell is this mess? Please help! I promise again to get rid of AOL, but in the meantime I am very curious as to what this crap is.

If it's this error:WAOL caused an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7800129a

here

What version of AOL are you using? WAOL causes different errors. If you provide more info (ie:module location) I'll try to look it up for you.

You can copy the exact error by: highlight the txt of the error with your mouse and either right click/copy or control/c keys to copy it and paste it here.

Are you using AOL5? If so, I would suggest going back to your old version. I had the same problem constantly until I switched back.

ds and sh, using 4.0. I uninstalled the sucky5.0 a while ago. But I had these same problems before 5.0 ever came along. Thanks for the links. But, I am now afraid to download anything related to AOL. I really appreciate the intended help though.

ds, I hope the next time it happens I can remember to copy and put it here. Thanks so much for your attempted help.

CH -- What operating system are you using? Did you get 4.0 off the windows 98 CD? If it's that "MSVCRT.DLL" you can get it from Microsnot. Don't need to download from AOL.

Illegal Operations are a way of life for windoze, but you shouldn't have to put up with rebooting all the time. Might be a simple fix.

Need exact error though.

doomer, thanks. Thanks for helping a doomer. I have 98 now. But I had the exact same problems with 95 a few years ago. Thanks for the intended help. I do really appreciate it. I have never SEEN an explanation for the 'WAOL' shutdowns. And there is no way I will ask AOHell for help. I will use them as long as I can. It is nothing personal to anyone who works at AOL, but I would LMAO if they went into the toilet.....they are so stupid and ugly.

DS, I am now on an IBM thinkpad. AOL preloaded. I thought it might be improved from the time I used it a few years ago. No such luck. Every day there is a problem. Either I get the 'illegal operation' shit or they steal my cursor. In either case I have to shut down and reboot. I want to leave AOL, but so many of my buddies and contacts are there.

cin, I made the mistake of downloading 5.0. It was a nightmare. The next day I deleted it and went back to 4.0. This was months ago. However, the problems I stated above I had a few years ago, well before 5.0. Still having them with a new computer. No one can tell me what 'WAOL' is. Why?

WAOL = Windows AOL platform

I only stomp extremist BS doomers :-)

For heaven sakes, you can use a regular dialup & access aol instant messenger & your buddy lists thru netscape.

True story, INEVER. I know several folks who access it from other ISP's using Internet Explorer as well.
