Hot link question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

How do I handle the alias for the link? Obviously something is going wrong. Sorry but I'm not going to that view page thing, tried it once and bad things happened. I finally had to power of my computer. Doesn't like that much. Mousie

Mousie, writing a link is like writing an equation in higher math. Here's how:

[a href="URL"]LINKTEXT[/a]

Instead of using brackets like I did in the example, use the caret symbols which are probably on your comma and period keys. (I don't think I can type'em because my html functions are on).

Within the quotation marks, place the url ie: www.whateveritis.com. Be sure you use the quotation marks.

replace LINKTEXT with whatever you want to say to identify the link, such as Click Here. Don't use quotes or underlines, it's not necessary.

Be sure to finish the "equation" with the left caret slash a right caret.

Thats all there is to it, but all the pieces have to be there in proper order or it simply won't resolve.

Good Luck

Big OOPS on my part:

In the url, be sure you put in the WHOLE url, ie:

http://www.whateveritis.com

I forgot the front-end portion.

Thanks ever so much. I spent hours yesterday searching for a simple clear explanation. Didn't find anything. Should have just asked you. Mousie

Mousie,

Here's how to write a hot link with the real greater-than/less-than symbols, using Craig's example:

<a href="http://URL">LINKTEXT</a>

(How do I display it here with the < and > without having it interpreted as real HTML? Programmer magic. It's why they pay us the big bucks! ;-D )

Thank you both, do believe I have it now. I'm still a little nervous about it, but rather proud. Mousie
