Can you send an image that you already have on your computer? Why don't you scan the image, you may want to touch it up or crop it in your image editing program, make the image size about the 600X800 pixels. This makes it fairly easy to see on a computer screen and still be easy to send. If you save it as a jpeg file with a medium quality, it will look ok but the file size will be such that it is easy to send as an e-mail attachment. When you want to include the image with your email message you just add it as an attachment. YOu will probably find that this is an easier way than trying to send it directly from the scanner software.
