Ladylogic's personality remains the biggest challenge to the internet's success. Speaking of news, I am wondering whether some of the old forum regulars and the regular posters to GICC would consider copying all their newsy posts to this refugee forum as well -- not necessarily as any sign of disaffection with Yourdon's decisions, but to leave livley the option of a return to a thriving forum in this superb format.

Hello,

If people want, I would be happy (in a limited capacity) to take the infamous role of Norm or Mild-Mannered reporter, and simply crosspost news stories of interest from different places.

Would that be all right/something you would want? I could only do it every couple of days, but would be happy to if it would help.

Yea, I can do that on Netscape; but have you ever used AOL Browser. No such function. I teach this stuff. I start DreamWeaver next week. Very embar. [yet nothing bothers me that much anymore]. But you can't check things on AOL. And if you do, it doesn't mean much.

I'm always looking for news and varying viewpoints regarding it. That's what makes the Internet so kewl...you get the info before the mainstream media prints or broadcasts it.

And, in many cases, you get news/info/viewpoints that the mainstream media does not distribute. Of course, you have to consider the source, and who is presenting their POV regarding commentary. But I think most of us are adults here and make their own decisions.

My take: This board will be a free-for-all. This is not necessarily bad, IMO. Some threads/days will be dry and esoterical, like listening to William F. Buckley...while other threads/days it will be like watching Jerry Springer, WWF, resembling more of a pissing contest. Some threads/days, the persona whimsical, like Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, while others may be sobering.

Each of us is different, but yet we're all the same. Given the many different personalities and backgrounds of the visitors in the past and present, it's rare that everyone will reach a consensus. It's how we handle the differences in opinion that is the challenge. Yet, we're all here visiting this garbled collection of news and ideas, either to share a POV/observation, pass on a story...or to gather other's POV's and gather information to (hopefully) enlighten ourselves...or to find interesting material/anecdotes/quotes/one- liners to use at cocktail parties, meetings, etc. ;-)

I've noticed many different debate/persuasion tactics over the many months. Very interesting means of discourse, some actually very educational. Some blatant as a two-by-four and up-front, some very subtle and drawn-out. I don't agree with everything, but yet I'm intrigued...which is why I keep returning :-) This is sort of like a virtual interactive soap opera, with a huge cast consisting of multiple personas, with the villians and heroes depend on one's POV.

Kudos to everyone here so far. I've seen some people who I thought were adversaries actually having civil discourse, which I find most promising, if not amazing LOL. Detente is a wonderful thing :-)

I look forward to the news/links/opening coming forth, even if I don't agree with it all. Let's hope the open speech thing keeps the spamming away. I prefer civil discourse, but if some folks have to resort to "in your face"/trashmouth tactics, taunting, swearing, etc., I'll just sigh and tell myself, "Oh well, that's part of their nature/personality"...and deal with it, or just skip the post altogether LOL.
