Luminous VC Fibre based paper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

I just purchased a box of this paper and have tried to get D-Max to determine maximum black. However, all I can get is a muddy grey on a test strip with 3 second intervals. Has anyone had any experience with this paper??? Any help will be appreciated.

Not knowing the f/stop you started at, I would suggest that you open the lens another full stop and do another test strip, and if you still don't get a black, open another full stop and continue until you do, if you don't, chuck the paper. Regards, Pat

Follow Pat's suggestion.

I use Luminos textured paper ("Charcoal") for images I plan to hand color or quality portraits. That paper is silver rich and the blacks are very black, even though the paper has an antique white base. The surface of the textured paper is very delicate and tongs will damage wet paper...fingers only! You must give it good exposure and use a quality developer.

I can not buy it any more in the southern region of the San Francisco Bay Area...I must order it.

To me, this is a very high quality specialty paper. I have not used the VC. If you don't like it, please throw it MY WAY!

fresh chems, long enough exposure time, long enough development time? Forte Polywarmtone takes twicw as long to expose and twice as long to process as my other normal paper from Kodak. Turn the darkroom light on and give it a good blast to see if it indeed gets to Dmax. James

I think James has the answer, increase the developing time, double it for a start.
