Best software VCD player is still XingMpeg 3.30? : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Im wondering if Xing 3.30 is still the best quality VCD player out there because it's been ages since it was released. Its really dissapointing using the 'old' program now. Companies other than Xingtech (now taken over) should of created better players by now since its pretty popular and growing. So does anyone else know of any good or developing VCD players for the pc?

I prefer PowerDVD. It is much more friendlier and it is very good. Get it at for $45.00.

I'm running PII 233 ATI Rage Fury 32Mb and nothing touches MPEGPlayer v. 3.36 from Jiao Systems. Full screen, no tearing, sound synched. In a word, Perfect.

The xing player does not work on Windows 2000. I had bought the xing player just two months back; then installed Win 2000 and it stopped working. The Xing tech support said that it is not released for Win 2000. Xing has been bought over by Realaudio company. Is there another product from that company that will replace the Xing MPEG player?

i think power vcd player by cyberlink is the best coz it can play vcd 2.0 which xing cant play.

note: there are different kinds of vcd's like vcd 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0

How about sony's VCD players ... which come bundled with VCDs

After using all the VCD/DVD player softwares, my choice is MPEGPlayer v. 3.35 or 3.36 from Jiao Systems. It is just the best player for playing VCDs on computer. The best part is it gives you the best picture using the available hardware.

I say that Windows media player(especially ver 6.4) is one of the best mpeg players around. You dont need to go for anything else. It works well with scratched CDs as well. That is one thing I really love about it. Xing traps, hangs and does a lot of other circus if the CD is not good. Taking the quality of sound into consideration Xing may a bit(it is only a bit) better than media player.
