Why did roxy have to tell Tom that he was really Chambers? Do you think that she will Chambers that he is really Tom or will he find out for himself?

I think that she felt that was the only way to get what she wanted the love that she dexerved from her son. Her real son. It also gave her leverage to get some money but it was kind of pay back for all she did do for the kid. I don't know if she will tell Chambers or not I will bet money that Tom won't in a million years tell Chambers or anybody that he is part negro. I think that Roxy will tell the Judge next and then I think that Puddin'head Wilson's fingerprint collection will come into play. But this is all speculation I haven't read enough to know and I am probably wrong anyway. Also Roxy might of felt a little guilty about lying to them for so long.?????

I think Roxie felt she had to find some way to support herself in her "old age." Who else was there to help an aging black woman before the days of social security and pensions? And Tom seemed like the most economically adventateous situation for Roxie. It must have been awful for free blacks to find ways of surviving. I hope the story tells more about Chambers because his life had drastic changes too.

I think Roxy told Tom the truth for her own selfish reasons. It was the only way she was going to get the money to support herself. There was no public assistance back then, so she had no choice but to extort money from her son.

Roxy had to tell "Tom" that he was really "Chambers" because he disrespected her. He treated her like a black slave because he thought he was white. I think she wanted him to start treated herself and other blacks with more respect, and he might do that if he knew that he himself should have been a slave. I also think that Roxy told him to black-mail him. She wanted him to give her money every month so she could survive since she was unable to work herself.

Roxy told tom who he really was in order to use it to her benefit. AT the time of telling him, she had more ill feelings towards him than good feelings, so she basically told him as blackmail. She was able to receive money from him because of this new knowledge.
