What is the retention for "Briefing Books" created for the highest executive level in a Federal agency.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Federal Information and Records Managers Council : One Thread

We are evaluating the Comptroller of the Currency's "Briefing Books". These books are created to prepare the Comptroller for meetings that he is attending. They contain background material on a variety of subjects related to the purpose of the meeting. He takes theses books to meetings but does not annotate the material in anyway? Does your agency have a retention and disposition for these books at the highest level? Thanks for your help. Carol

RG 016, Office of the Secretary of Agriculture, has a category called "Reports" under each of its major topic categories. Most of the these are temporary, with a 3 year retention. The exceptions are within the External and Public Relations categories (Legislative and Executive Branch Relations); these are also temporary, with a 5 year retention. NOTE: RG 016 encompasses the immediate Office of the Secretary, the offices of the Deputy, Under, and Assistant Secretaries, and the independent agencies and staff offices (Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, etc.).

Retention and disposition of briefing books are under review but the proposed disposition is temporary with a minimum retention of 2 years.
