Can M-Filter be used for AVI capture boards?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am considering getting some sort of AVI capture board (haven't decided which yet). I also hear that the Darim MPEGator is a really good filteration hardware solution. Now, is the Darim MPEGator limited to only filteration when used with an MPEG capture device or can it be used with AVI capture devices?

Thanx

SuperDre,

M-filter is a hardware filter designed to pre-filter the video source for you, and it will work on anykind of capture card. The best feature of this hardware is that it will convert your composite video signal into S-video signal. If you are planning to do software encoding afterward i would not get this hardware anyway, since the software will do the job for you. The hardware may harm you. It has an onboard filter algorithym like the software filter for your input signal. I would not use both hardware and software at the same time. Use either one or the other. So far I have found no great gain by using both of them together. This card is designed specifically to work with a hardware mpeg encoder on the fly.
