Condition of Alaskan Pipline, Wells, Refineries?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

We don't seem to be seeing anything definitive on the Alaskan Pipeline, the wells, or refineries. I did see a reference weeks ago to buying 6 cargos of Russian oil because of the "North Slope". I believe the Alaskan source goes mainly to the West Coast. Does anyone have any information?

I remember a Statement made,Years back, when they build it.The claim was, since the Oil had such a high Sulfur Content,no Refinery in the US wanted to process it,so the entire Production went to Japan, where they tackled the Problem. At the Time, the entire Find in Alaska would last only about 2 Weeks,if we had no other Source of Oil.

I believe Alaskan oil goes mostly to Asia.

Romain,

Just in case you did'nt see the question I ask on the other oil thread,I thought I would ask again.

When you spoke of "just possible Ness, in Israel, about to come up with the largest reserve ever found", are you saying a newly found reserve or one that has been known about for a few years and they might be planning to start taking the oil out of the reserve?

Any information on the oil reserves in Israel would be appreciated.

"I believe Alaskan oil goes mostly to Asia."

That is correct; specifically, to South Korea.

A large part of Alaskan crude is sent to Cherry Point WA. We lived in Valdez for eighteen years, both pre- and post-construction. Smelled like money, for sure.

Romain: North Slope oil is shipped out of Valdez to the west coast of the U.S. . Cook Inlet oil is refined an the Nikiski Plant and for the most part stays in Alaska. Coal from Healey, Ak, is transported by the Alaskan Railroad to Sewards Suneel coal yard and shipped to South Korea. The sulphur content is to high to meet EPA standards in the U.S. Russian far east oil fields are coming on line and exporting. Yes there has been several deliveries of Russian oil to Alaska. This isnt because we're running out of oil here, its because they dont have any modern refineries in the Russian far east and the product they turn out is sub-standard and not marketable as a finished product.
