Check out this ABCnews article. I've been a little skeptical, but you OilBomb2000 folks may be right after all.

"Refineries Squeezed by High Prices

At the same time, refineries, squeezed by the high crude prices, are far from maximum capacity, according to government monitors. In the past three weeks, refineries on average were running at about 85 percent capacity, compared with nearly 92 percent at the same time a year ago. "

Why aren't refineries running at capacity?

My dear MR. Jenkins,

The answear to your question is that they can't run at last year's levels. Most, if not all of them cannot stand the strain.

Examine what has been said...To arrive at what has not been publically said. For one, I t had beensaid (over the media) that the refineries hae been asked to put of/ delay their scheduled maintance shut downs. What is not being said...That they efineries and pipe lines are FOF while they try and keep the units and pipe lines running/ under pressure etc.

The JIT system we have for the making and distribution of fuel stocks..Has no excess capisity! There is not a spare pipe line to fall back on. Not a idle refinery to bring on line, should the on-line one go down.

In Electrical power...We have those things. Plus safty back ups (just in case).

"As for me...I shall finish the Game"!

Putting that another way, Carl, the refineries ARE running at capacity -- their capacity.

Those numbers show that roughly 15% of our refinery capacity is being repaired, either because of planned or "unplanned" maintenance.
