A New Peter

Does anyone notice a kinder, gentler Peter? I think the old Peter of a few seasons ago would have riped Luka apart for his actions. But when they were taking her up to surgery and Luka said that it was still her patient, Peter said very calmly, "Not anymore." Also the exchange between them after the surgery was quite nice. His seen with Carter was priceless. I like the Peter charecter a lot more than I used to.

I also like the Luka charecter very much. Did you see the cute way he bowed to Carol and Abby as he left?

I agree, Peter is becoming viewer-friendly again. I was getting weary with his continual negativity and would usually choose his scenes to go to the kitchen for a drink, etc. Now I am interested again. He is not such a downer, but is still not the sugar plum fairy either. I am planning to stay and see his scenes now.

ITA! He has been great the past couple episodes. I especially thought it was cute that when Cleo wanted to get coffee in lieu of the jazz club he said "Carter will be dissapointed" (or something like that). Too funny!

I think being a father has really rounded some of Peter's sharp edges. He has learned to be patient and encouraging to Reese (where is the boy btw?)with his hearing problem and it has seeped into his professional life too. I like the "new" Peter-but we don't want him to be TOO nice of course!! Rocket definitely has more attitude than even Peter!!!

Peter's maturing and becoming less self-absorbed. Maybe the writer's are trying to expand him a bit so the show can last a few more years. So many of the other "old" characters have no place to go. I'm thinking of Mark, Carol. I've always enjoyed Peter. I think I am one of the few people who consider him one of their favorite characters.

Rachel, I've always appreciated Peter as well...he is so complex, has so many layers and so many issues...his mom, Carla, Jeannie, his son, Lizzie, how he's perceived at the hospital, working as a mentor and then as a colleague with Carter...so much to enjoy...I don't like Cleo, mainly because the actress has the emotional depth of a dishtowel, but maybe Peter can make it interesting. LOVED his line about Carter being disappointed, laughed out loud...

I have always seen Peter like an onion whose many layers would slowly be revealed to the viewer. I personally would have liked the process to happen a little faster but this way seems in keeping with Peter's personality. I remember when Reese was born and the only person who offered him any sympathy, in fact the only person who knew about Reese was Jeanie. I couldn't imagine working with people for at least four years and not telling them or not feeling that you know them well enough to tell them about this most important event. My heart went out to Peter when he had to face all his anxieties alone without a kind word or a concerned look from Carter or Mark or Doug. I don't see Peter as quite so alone now.

I agree as well and I haven't been a big fan of the ER hard-@sses (Kerry, Benton, & Romano) until the "All in the Family" episode. I've found a new respect for them. I've always thought their characters made the show interesting and they are all wonderful actors, but it's nice to see the tender and thoughtfull side of them. Just hope they don't get too soft on us! :)

I did like the part where Benton asked Carter "when exactly did you loose the filter between your brain and your mouth?" The old Peter would never have bantered that way with his "underling".
