(Rick) Beating Surveillance

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Team SF : One Thread

I have some new information on the inner workings of surveillance. At our present stakes, these methods are not necessary. When we get back to spreading multiple blacks, this info will be useful and will be offered in full details. I was considering including this as part of the discussion when I host the Mar. 7 greenbelt chat, but decided against it, as if certain information becomes too mainstream, it becomes worthless. On that same note, fake IDs. If you have a good source for a GOOD fake ID, something which may be unique, you shouldn't let too many people in on it. All it takes is for one careless person to get snagged with this type of ID, and your one-time "good" card becomes worthless.

Re: fake IDs

Rick,

What are the risks of being snagged with fake ID? In the casino, it seems to me that one would only show it briefly on check-in and to get a card initially. If caught counting, you don't (legally) have to show it (although Park Place seems not to care about the law) -- and in fact it's probably best not to have it with you, just leave it in the hotel room or with a friend so that even if you're searched it can't be used against you.

Using one when caught speeding is an invitation to disaster, but are the casinos really savvy enough to spot a truly good fake?? In these days of scanners and color laser printers, it seems these would be all but impossible to mess up, if one were willing to take the time to do it right.

Just wondering if there are other situations in which there is real danger of being nailed.

(Rick) Fake IDs

Shrdlu,

I am not worried about me getting nailed with a fake ID for something I had done. My concern is as follows:

I personally have been fortunate to find a place where I can get an excellent ID, which is completely legal and has been acceptable. I use this for room check-ins and when going to the "Players Club" desk to have one of the "clerks" there make up a Players Card. One should never present any form of fake ID to Pit Person or Cashier. All that said, I take all necessary precautions to ensure that my form of ID is not identified as questionable. However, not everyone is as careful as I am. Let's take this scenario:

Timex Tommy, with his face full of zits, is playing for a team during his spring break, betting table max at Mirage. He is in $10k and Pit asks for his ID. He gives his "fake ID" which so happens to be the same type I use. Pit makes it as a "fake." An memo is immediately sent throughout the various departments within the casino with a photo of this type of ID, with instructions to alert security should anyone present one of these. The next day, I happen to be checking into the hotel. Thank you Timex Tommy !

Further, someone informed me that a post was made of Wong's board about a store in Texas that prints fake IDS. I thought about this, since I realize that Wong's web site is crawling with casino people, imagine if someone contacted this particular store and offered some $$ to a clerk at this store to provide a list of people who have purchased such IDs!! At the very least, knowing that the same casino people who you are looking to use this fake ID on are reading info about this fake ID should give you the realization that they have the ability to know what these "publicized" IDs look like.

I trust this answers your question.

Regards, Rick
